The Confessions of a Spider
I say hello,'tis my cobweb And here lies my sanctuary Here also lie my preys; pray! And here's my confession; my eternal worry A tale went that a spider Fell and climbed and fell again Only to climb the cave walls Where a weary traveller had lain The tale went that the traveller The falling and climbing, celebrated Won a war, galvanized The spider's battle, venerated But the tale continues further, father! The spider had hardened in strife His webs became stronger; the threads stickier Every time the fall led to a climb I say, stay away from the cobweb 'tis the graveyard of all the love I knew The resin I hardened as armour Has turned to arrows, flying askew The cemetery of my preys The casualties of my sublimation I confess, for I have sinned, Father! I chose strength over admiration
