Game Changer: Rachel Reid

I was deep in a reading slump—the kind where every book feels like homework and even turning a page starts to feel like a commitment. Then Game Changer skated into my life and suddenly I was staying awake far later than I should, blaming fictional hockey players for my lack of sleep instead of the suffocating summer heat.

What starts with a lucky smoothie quickly turns into something neither Scott Hunter nor Kip Grady can ignore. One is a hockey superstar terrified of what going public could cost him, while the other is tired of being hidden behind closed doors. Throw in undeniable chemistry, stolen moments, emotional tension, and enough longing to power an entire city, and you’ve got a romance that kept me glued to the pages long after I promised myself, just one more chapter.

Not me falling for Scott Hunter at 1 a.m.

I absolutely loved the pacing of this book, but let’s talk about Scott for a second because that man had me completely gone. He knows exactly what he wants, isn’t afraid to pursue it, and wears his interest so openly that I was left kicking my feet and grinning like an idiot. Scott somehow manages to say all the right things while simultaneously having the flirting skills of a confused golden retriever. It’s flawlessly sexy and ridiculously cute. The man doesn’t flirt—he simply exists and somehow makes breathing look attractive.

And yes, I know. I committed the cardinal sin of reading Heated Rivalry before Game Changer. I knew this was a series, but never in a million years did I expect to love anyone more than Rozanov. Yet here I am, shamelessly gushing over Scott Hunter. Don’t get me wrong, I liked Kip too, but if this book taught me anything, it’s that my standards are apparently just Scott Hunter.

I loved everything about this book. The romance, the chemistry, the emotional moments, the characters—every single page worked for me. For a book that pulled me out of a reading slump, it didn’t just succeed; it absolutely body-checked me back into my reading era.

Highly, highly recommend.

Also, have any of you watched the shows? I’m embarrassingly behind. Heated Rivalry, Off Campus—as in, I’ve seen exactly none of them. Lucky me, honestly. Fresh content waiting for summer sounds like a pretty good problem to have.
