Anna Maybourne drops out of university and moves with her mother, little sister, and grandmother to the tiny farming town of Harper’s Creek, hoping for a fresh start. But years ago, a girl was brutally murdered here. Now another girl is dead, and Anna starts wondering if the two deaths are connected—and what exactly her own family has to do with this town.
This was… interesting. I really liked Anna—she’s tough, stubborn, and fiercely protective of her little sister, especially while the whole family is trying to deal with their grandmother’s dementia. The mystery definitely kept me curious because I was constantly wondering: Is someone else going to disappear? Who killed these girls so brutally? And why does everyone in Harper’s Creek seem suspicious as hell?
My money was on the junior police officer. Based on evidence? Absolutely not. Just vibes.
But JESUS, I did not expect this book to go paranormal as fuck. At one point I was more confused than Anna and her grandmother combined. Their relationship was actually one of my favorite parts, though, especially once you start realizing there might be more going on with Grandma than everyone assumes.
It kept me intrigued, but it also felt too long and a little too far-fetched at times. Fun enough, weird as hell, definitely not what I expected.
