Review of: Promise Me Never, Liv Constantine

A famous horror writer. A dead first wife.

A secluded house in the woods.

What could possibly go wrong?

Savannah thinks she’s hit the jackpot when bestselling author Bennett Bryson falls for her, but Prince Charming quickly turns into a controlling nightmare, and apparently, the man has a rather unfortunate history of women disappearing. Romantic, isn’t it?

This book had me hooked from the very first chapter, despite the fact that I absolutely despised both main characters. Bennett gives off serious serial killer vibes, and Savannah is somehow even more insufferable, obsessing over her mediocre little manuscript while her husband keeps a mysterious office locked and his former lovers remain suspiciously missing. Girl, priorities!

Considering my love for dark romance, I wouldn’t have minded a little spice, but honestly, these two had absolutely zero appeal. Still, I was dying to know what the hell was going on. I practically devoured the book overnight, although things have been so ridiculously quiet at work lately that I’ve apparently turned my office into a personal reading retreat. God, if I could find a job in the book industry, that would be divine.

Anyway, HA! I actually figured out what was happening and felt ridiculously proud of myself.

But then came THAT FINAL TWIST. Excuse me?! I was absolutely not prepared for that. Despite the utterly insufferable characters (except Poppy, I kind of liked her), this was such an addictive, cleverly twisted thriller. Terrible people, delicious secrets, and an ending that genuinely caught me off guard. 4 stars from me. So damn good!
